Shell and tube heat exchangers (shell & tube) are one of the most widely used designs in industry—proven over decades in the most demanding applications. A tube bundle enclosed in a cylindrical shell allows heat exchange between two media without direct contact, at high pressures and temperatures that are unattainable for other types of heat exchangers.

Plate heat exchangers offer compact dimensions and high efficiency—but with limited operating pressures and difficulties when handling contaminated media. A shell and tube heat exchanger does not have these limitations. Its cylindrical housing and welded construction withstand pressures and temperatures at which other types of heat exchangers fail. The tube bundle can be removed, mechanically or hydrodynamically cleaned, and inspected without dismantling the installation. This is why shell & tube remains the preferred solution in power generation, chemical, and marine industries—regardless of technological advances in other heat exchanger types.
