ASTECHNIK/Offer/Dry Coolers

Dry Coolers

Dry cooler is a device for cooling water or glycol using atmospheric air — without water consumption, without medium evaporation, and without the risk of system contamination. We manufacture dry coolers with cooling capacities ranging from 5 kW to 1760 kW, featuring electric or hydraulic drives, available in single-station and multi-section configurations — tailored to the specific requirements of any industrial installation or server room.

TECHNICAL APPLICATION

Liquid cooling where cooling water is unavailable or undesirable

Free cooling for data centers and server rooms

Dry cooler as a standalone cooling system for chilled water or glycol in server rooms — in the Polish and Central European climate, atmospheric air is cool enough for a significant part of the year to handle cooling without chillers. Real reduction in energy consumption with zero water usage and full compliance with the growing environmental requirements imposed on data centers.

Cooling of industrial units and machinery

Heat dissipation from cooling systems of compressors, generators, transformers, and other industrial equipment generating large amounts of heat continuously — without water infrastructure and without permanent maintenance of a water treatment system.

Cogeneration and power plants

Dry coolers for liquid cooling in CHP systems, biogas plants, and power stations — where cooling reliability is a prerequisite for energy production continuity, and access to cooling water is limited or restricted by regulations.

INDUSTRIES

USED AMONG OTHERS IN THE INDUSTRIES

Power engineering and cogeneration

Liquid cooling in CHP systems, biogas plants, and power generators — operating continuously for thousands of hours with minimal maintenance.

Data center i serwerownie

Dry coolers for free cooling of server rooms and data centers — zero water consumption, closed loop, ability to operate without chillers for most of the year in temperate climates. Capacities from several tens to 1760 kW allow servicing both small server rooms and large colocation facilities.

Industry and process cooling

Dry coolers for cooling chilled water and glycol in manufacturing plants — as an alternative to cooling towers where process water consumption is undesirable or impossible.

Mining and heavy industry

Dry coolers for machinery and equipment operating in harsh environmental conditions — available in versions adapted for dusty and chemically aggressive areas, including ATEX zones.

WHY DRY COOLER ?

Zero water, zero losses — and free cooling for most of the year

Cooling towers and wet cooling systems require constant access to make-up water, a water treatment system, and regular maintenance against scale and corrosion. A dry cooler eliminates these requirements entirely — the sole cooling medium is atmospheric air, and the process medium circulates in a sealed, closed loop. In the Polish climate, this is a particular advantage for data centers and server rooms: for a significant part of the year, the outdoor temperature allows for full cooling without chillers — so-called free cooling. This brings direct energy savings while simultaneously meeting the growing environmental requirements regarding water consumption by data centers. We manufacture dry coolers with capacities from 5 kW to 1760 kW — each as an individual project, not a catalog product.

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A cooling tower cools water through its partial evaporation — requiring constant water replenishment and water treatment. A dry cooler cools the medium exclusively with atmospheric air in a closed loop — without water consumption and without the risk of medium contamination. It is simpler to operate, but at very high ambient temperatures, it has a lower cooling capacity than a wet cooling tower.
Free cooling is an operating mode where the ambient air temperature is low enough to cool the medium without assistance from a chiller. In the Central European climate, this condition occurs for a significant part of the year — which translates into real energy savings, especially in 24/7 applications such as server rooms and data centers.
We manufacture dry coolers with cooling capacities ranging from 5 kW to 1760 kW — in single-unit or multi-section configurations. The selection of capacity and configuration is carried out based on the thermal requirements of the system and the climate data of the location.
Yes — most of our dry coolers operate with a mixture of water and ethylene or propylene glycol. Glycol lowers the freezing point of the medium, which allows the system to operate at low ambient temperatures without the risk of the loop freezing.
A hydraulic fan drive is used where the availability of electrical power is limited or undesirable — e.g., on mobile machinery, in mines, or in offshore applications. It also allows for smooth regulation of fan speed by altering the flow of hydraulic oil.
